Message from the Director
It is my great pleasure to know that the Russian Center of Science and Culture, with the arrival of New Year 2008 has launched a Monthly E-Newsletter with a view to provide information about the regular events and activities of the Russian Cultural Centre that incorporates seminars, conferences on social issues, Russia-Nepal and international affairs, literary and cultural activities, film festivals and painting competitions.                                                       
As we all know that Russia is celebrating the Year of Family 2008 as declared by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, I fell pleasure to informed you that the Russian Centre of Science and Culture too are going to celebrate the Year of family 2008 in Nepal here, by organizing different programmes focusing on the integration and importance of family values in the society.                                                                                                             
Finally, I would like to congratulate the Editorial Team for their efforts to disseminate the regular events and activities of the Cultural Centre throughout its partner organization and the visitors in the country and abroad.                                          
Celebration of New Year with the Children of Balmandir

With an aim to provide opportunity to celebrate New Year among orphan’s children of Balmandir, Russian Centre of Science and Culture screened a movie named Father Frost and distributed sweets and gifts on 7th January 2008. 

The movie was based on children fairy tale that depicts the children’s dream and desire which some people are only fortunate to gain it. More than 180 students from Balmandir and other children from different schools received the sweets and gifts from Santa Claus. More >>

A celebration of New Year 2008 by NRFA

Praying for sustainable peace and stability in the country and all over the world, Nepal Russia Friendship Association organized a special celebration programme on the occasion of the arrival of New Year 2008 on 11th January 2008.

Honorable Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan was the chief guest of the programme. While other distinguishes guests of the programme were Russian Ambassador to Nepal Andrey L. Trofimov, Counselor of Russian Embassy, other foreign dignitaries, human rights activists, political leaders and industrialists.

The programme aims to enhance and consolidate the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Russia said chairman of Nepal Russia Friendship Association Bagwan Ratna Tuladhar.
Speaking at the function, Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan said that the foreign policy of Nepal has to be attuned to the changing needs of the time and the moment.
Lighting a "diyo" praying for sustainable peace and stability in the nation and world, she said the fundamental objective of foreign policy has been to make contribution to world peace and stability by promoting bilateral and multilateral friendship and understanding among nation of the world on the grounds of the principle of peaceful coexistence.Click to enlarge

Inauguration of official website of RCSC

Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan launched the official website www.russiancultureinnepal.org of Russian Center of Science and Culture on the same day amidst the function on 11th January 2008.

The website incorporates the regular events and activities at Russian Center of Science and Culture, its reports, e-news, daily news updates of Russia and Nepal.
The website also consists of different information about Russia including Russian life style, language, culture, liClick to enlargeterature, abroad study and Russian government prospective and policies.

Giving a brief introduction of the website, Webmaster of Russian Center of Science and Culture Sushil Upreti informed that the objective behind launching the website is to disseminate the regular events and activities of Russian Center of Science and Culture through website and to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Russia and Nepal by organizing different cultural, literary and talk Programmes and seminars on different social as well as cultural issues. Opening Programme for the Year of Family 2008

Click to enlargeCelebrating the Year of Family 2008 in Russia, Nepal Russia Friendship Association, Children's Literature Foundation Nepal and the Russian Center of Science and Culture organized the Opening Programme for the Year of Family 2008 as declared by the Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24th January.

The programme was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament Asta Laxmi Shakya. 
Giving a brief introduction about the importance of family, Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Sergey F. Kiselev said  that the objective behind declaring the Year of family 2008 in Russia is to bond the love between the families by reviving the responsibility and giving respectful attitudes towards family values and their children so that more families live in peace and harmony, the stronger they are united by common goals, values and moral standard, the more humane society will be.|

Other distinguish guest of the programme  Dambar Bir Thapa, Chairman of People to People Nepal, Kartikeya Ghimire, Chairman of Children’s Literature Foundation and Bagwan Ratna Tuladhar President of Nepal Russia friendship Association made remark  on the importance of family in the development of society and the nation.

They also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Russian President Putin for opening the eye of the world by declaring the year of family 2008.

The programme was followed by the Russian film "The Kingdom of the Crooked Mirror". More >>

Celebrating the 148th Birth Anniversary of Russian Playwright Anton Chekhov

ToClick to enlarge mark the 148th birth anniversary of Anton P. Chekhov, Nepal-Russia Literary Association and Russian Centre of Science and Culture in collaboration with SathSath (an NGO working for the rights of children ) staged a drama “the House with Mazzanine” based on the story of Anton P. Chekhov named  on 29th January, 2008.

The drama was directed and Dramatized by Nabaraj Bhudhathoki of SathSath and translated into Nepali by Associate professor Dr Jangam Chauhan.

The drama was based on one of the tragic story of Chekhov, which depicted love and hardships. The story revolved around the fact that the people should rely on practical ideas and education to achieve victory and bring change in society. It also reflected the revolutionary thoughts of Karl Marx. The story reveals a suppressive rule in village where people were suppressed by a landlord and the youths of the village wanting to topple down the suppression through practical education. But one of the characters in the play opposes the youngsters in every step and stand up against education being offered by schools and university. He sticks himself to Marx philosophy that division of labor can free from the people from bonded labors and the people can utilize the leisure time for exploring the reason behind the suffering. Due to his revolutionary philosophy, he falls into the tragedy. 

Giving the brief introduction about the Chekhov Coordinator of Russian Center of Science and Culture Ludmila Shakova highlighted about Chekhov's works and his contribution to the literary scenario of Russia.
addsffA four day long film festival starting from December 18 to 21 that was organized on the occasion of the Year of Child-2007 and on the Eve of the Year of Family 2008 in Russia at Russian Center of Science and Culture received an overwhelmed response from school going children's. Apart from children the festivals also draw the huge attention of people from various walks of life. More than 1000 students from different schools of the valley witness the films screened at the Cultural Center. The huge participation in the festival has encouraged the Cultural Center to screen such movie related to children time and often. The objective of film festival was to introduce Russian culture, language and tradition to children's through the medium of entertainment.
The festival also aimed to build a strong bilateral friendly relationship between Nepalese and Russian children. A total of seven movies were screened during the festival based on children fairy tales. More >>

RCSC bid farewell and welcomed the center's directors

RuClick to enlargessian Centre of Science and Culture bid farewell to the outgoing director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Sergey F. Kiselev and welcomed the newly appointed Director Dr. Vladimir V. Novikov on 31st January 2008.

Mr Sergey F. Kiselev was appointed as a Director of Russian Cultural Centre and first Secretary of the Russian Embassy on July 2002. During his tenure in the Cultural Centre, he contributed in promotion of the various activities of the RCSC to strengthen friendly relations between Russia and Nepal.

Speaking at the farewell, Mr Kiselev bestowed thanks to the member of each organisation for their kind co-operation in holding regular events and activities at the Cultural Centre.
 “I hope that the Cultural Centre will receive the same sprit of co-operation in the days to come,” he said.

Addressing the function H.E. Andrei L. Trofimov, Ambassador of theClick to enlarge Russian Federation in Nepal applauded the contribution of Mr. Kiselev and welcomed Mr. Novikov.

Newly appointed Director of Russian Cultural Centre and Counsellor of Russian Embassy Vladimir V. Novikov expressed his gratitude to everyone presented there and assured to extend the same co-operation in the days ahead.

The chairpersons of various organizations presented a token of love and souvenir to outgoing Director Kiselev appreciating his contribution and co-operation during his tenure. More >>
