Celebration of New Year 2009 - 2nd January

A New Year programme was organized with a slogan of “Long Live Nepal- Russia FriendClick to enlargeship “by Russian Centre of Science and Culture jointly with Nepal-Russia Friendship Association and alumni from Institutions and Universities of former Soviet Union/Russian Federation “Mitra Kunj”, Nepal Council of World Affairs and Nepal-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its other partner organizations on 2nd January 2009.

Russian Ambassador to Nepal A.L Trofinov, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Suppliers Asta Laxmi Shakya, members of Nepalese parliament (deputieClick to enlarges), journalists and other public elites were presented in the programme.

At the functions they talked on the issues that happened in the year 2008. The participants also put their plans to develop Russian-Nepalese relations and elevating contacts between the citizens of both the countries in 2009.

Amidst the function Nepalese artists performed a musical show.

Celebration of New Year with Children of Balmandir

Children from “Bal Mandir” (Orphanage Center) were invited in RCSC on January 6th. About more than 100 children were presented at the Cultural Centre. They were entertained with different games and RCSC screened a Russian Movie named ‘Deer`s Horn’ for them. More >>

Inauguration program of the Year of Youth in Russia 2009 in RCSC - 12th January

Russian Centre of Science and Culture organized a painting exhibition to open the Year of YouClick to enlargeth in Russian in 2009. Representatives of Nepal-Russia Friendship Association, members of Nepal Scouts, college and universities students had participated in the program.

A total of 40 paintings by six amateur artists from Lalit Kala College were put on displayed. The paintings comprised semi abstract, contemporary and commercial arts.

Program Coordinator of RCSC, Mr. A. Starkov briefed some few details about the basic laws of youth policy in Russia. He also mentioned that there are rather similar laws of youth policy applied in different parts of Russia. Mr. Starkov stressed that the main objectives of State youth policies are to make young people educated, responsible citizens and bring them to take part in the all-round development activities in the country. Russian Children Film Festival in Kavre district of Nepal - 22nd January

In course of celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of renowned novelist Anton Chekhov, Russian Centre of Science and Culture in collaboration with PABSON of Kavre district and Jugal Association Nepal jointly organized a three-day children fairy tale film festival in different places of Kavre district starting from Banepa, Panauti and Panchkhal from 22nd of January.

In the first day of the festival on Thursday, the movie named ‘The Snow Queen’ was screened at the Mahyur Cinema Hall at Banepa. The movie was a touching story of great love, human kindness and faithfulness to ones duty. The film tells about the wonderful journey of a modest little girl Herda, a female character of the movie. The movie has been directed by Kazansky Gennady.

Students of 50 schools had thronged to watch the movie in the first day of the festival. Inaugurating the film festival Rajiv Dawadi of Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chief District Education Administration Sundar Kumar Shakya and Programme Coordinator of RCSC Arseny Starkov said the objective behind organising the film festival was to boost up the psychological moral of children and to exchange the cultural ties between both the countries through movies. Anton Chekhov`s `A House With Mazzanine Staged - 26th January

Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Sath Sath theatre jointly staged a play named ‘ A House with Mezzanine’ based on the story written by renowned novelist and playwright Anton Chekhov to mark the 150th anniversary of Anton Chekhov at Russian Centre of Science and Culture on 21st January.

‘A House with Mezzanine is a monosyllabic drama that deals with the duality between realist and capitalist. The story revolves around the pessimistic artist who believes in the Karl Marx theory of division of labor. The play conclude with the defeat of artist with society and love for being against the bourgeoisie education and rebellious towards the social structure.

At the same time, nineteen artists bring their imagination into the canvas based on the drama. The paintings drawn by the artists will be put on the exhibition for sale and the proceeds collected from the exhibition will be used for the rehabilitation of street children.

Commemoration program - 65th anniversary of the soviet army breaking Nazi German army blockade of Leningrad - 27th January

Russian Centre of Science and Culture in collaboration with History Association of Nepal organized a programme at Russian Centre of Science and Culture on January 27 to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the soviet army breaking Nazi German army blockade of Leningrad in January 1944. Historical pioneer of Nepal and Vice Chancellor of Lumbini Boudha University Tulsi Ram Vaidhya was the chief guest of the programme, while the programme was chaired by the President of History Association Nepal Krishna Bahadur Thapa.

Director of Russian Centre of Science and CulClick to enlargeture Dr Vladimir V Novikov made a briefing how the bravery of people and the heroic deeds of soviet army succeeded in breaking the blockade of Nazi Germany along with slide show, presented by Arseny Starkov programme coordinator of Russian Centre of Science and Culture.

Addressing the programme Professor Tulsi Ram Vidhya said history reflects the true facts of the nation in brining the past of the nation. Therefore history presented by the own national author would have more truth than the history recorded by the international press or author, he added.

The end of 10-Days long program dedicated to Chekhov in RCSC - 29th January

The end of 10-Days long program dedicated to the Great Russian writer A. Chekhov was ended with a one act drama “Swan Song” by Chekhov at RCSC Kathmandu on 29th January 2009.The play was also dedicated to the Nepali theatre artistes late Bekh Narayan Maharjan. Amidst the function media person and the Director of the play Nabaraj Budhathoki paid tribute by airing his radio interview recorded by himself in a day before he died.

The drama was a one act play that portrayed the story of desolation artist who contributed his entire life in theatre.

Speaking at the programme Professor Abhi Subedi said the contribution of Chekhov in the field of literature is tremendous as his works depicts the society in the state of transition, anarchism and domination caused by the aristocracy.

Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr. Vladimir V. Novikov said that the Cultural Centre is proud to bring the Nepali and Russian art and culture through drama in front of the audiences. “Its really a praiseworthy to see the performance of Chekhov`s drama by the Nepali youth artists,” he said.
