Russian Delegations' visit to Nepal

Click to enlargeA delegations led by the Rector of Russian People Friendship University of Russia Evgeny Shesnyak and E.V Martinenko Head of International Relation of Russian People Friendship University paid one week visit to Nepal starting from 28th April to 5th May aiming to develop the higher education of Nepal and Russia. During their stay in Nepal they paid courtesy meeting with the senior authorities of Kathmandu University, Tribhuvan University, NAST as well as the the Secretary of the Ministry of Education andClick to enlarge sports Mr. Balananda Poudel and discussed about the development of education in Nepal with the head of respective universities and the Ministry. The objective of their visit was to extend the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Russian through the promotion of higher education.

The delegation provides the detailed information about their university and their educational policies in providing scholarship to the foreign students. The delegation also assured to the Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Nath Bhattari that they would extend their cooperation in providing fellowship in the research field. A program at KU to mark the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

Click to enlarge07 May 2008, Russian Center of Science and Culture and Kathmandu University jointly organized a talk programme on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Speaking at the talk programme, Counselor/ Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr Vladimir V. Novikov spoke about the successful victory of Russian alliances against Nazi Germany in World War II. He informed about the cause of the World War II and its adverse consequences faced by the Nazi Germany after the defeat in the war. He said the cause of World War II is Versailles agreement which hurt the pride of German. Ultimately Soviet Union defeated Nazi Germany with the alieClick to enlargen of USA, UK in 1945 for which Soviet Union paid a big cost of more than 27 million people, thousand of villagers and seven hundred billion ruble were lost. In response to a question, Dr Vladimir V Novikov said all War Veterans and commanders are remembered with great respect with big parade of heavy war equipment.

Associate Professor of Kathmandu University Dr Jangam Chauhan read out the poem translated in Nepali which was composed during the time of war.

A talk programme on "The Role of Russia and Nepal in the World War II"

Click to enlarge08 May 2008, Russian Center of Science and Culture and History Association of Nepal organized a talk programme on "The Role of Russia and Nepal in the World War II" on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

The programme was chaired by the President of History Association of Nepal Krishna Bahadur Thapa, while the chief guest of the programme was the vice chancellor of Lumbini Boudha University Dr. Tulsi Ram Vaidhya and other distinguish guests of the programme were Khadka Man Shrestha and Govardan Sharma.

The programme was started with the welcome speech of the Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr. Vladimir V. Novikov. He talked abouClick to enlarget the caused and affects of World War II and their victorious win against German Nazi. He said 27 million people lost their lives in the World War II and about property worth Rs 678 billion rubble were destroyed. Similarly lives of seven million of Nazi Germany were killed.

Presenting a paper professor Govardan Sharma said that about 24 thousand Nepalese soldiers were killed in the World War II but the government has not yet revealed the fact so far. He said about three hundred thousand Nepalese soldiers were mobilized in the World War II. More >>

A program to mark the 305 years of St. Petersburg

Click to enlarge16 May 2008, Russian Centre of Science and Culture organized documentary film show, poetry recitation and musical programme on the occasion of the 305th anniversary of the foundation of St. Petersburg. Similarly, a week long photo exhibition was also opened to mark the occasion. The photos in the exhibition depict the historical monuments and the life style of peoples at St. Petersburg. The documentary film reflects the wonderful monuments, museum and Greek architecture of the 19th century in Russia.

Attaché Assistant to the Ambassador of Russian Federation Roman G. Bryulgart recited a poem dedicating to the foundation of St Petersburg. 'Peter tClick to enlargehe Great'. Dr. Alla Sharma and Victoria Onupatriava sang the songs about Leningrad. Similarly Vharya Dangal recited a poem of Alexander Puskin.

Speaking at the programme Director/ Counselor of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr Vladimir V. Novikov informed that St Petersburg was the capital of Russia from 1713 to 1918. The city is familiar as the city of sword, flowers and rich in ancient Greek architecture. He said the city was growing faster as a cultural and industrial hub.
