Moscow Says Hello to Kathmandu

05 Click to enlargeSeptember 2008, A Day of Moscow was being observed at Russian Centre of Science and Culture with a theme “Moscow Says Hello to Kathmandu” on the occasion of the Day of Moscow on Friday.

The programme was celebrated by organizing photo exhibition, concert, and cocktail by various Russian expatriates and Nepalese aspiring artistes.

The programme was started with the welcome speech by the Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr Vladimir V. Novikov by greeting the audiences.

He said Nepali and Russia despite the geographical Click to enlargeand territorial boundaries shares the closeness through warm love and respect. He further added that the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Russia would be more strengthen in the days to come.

On the occasion, Russian and Nepalese artiest performed the songs, music and recited the poems. The programme was followed by the displayed of painting exhibition depicting ancient Russian social and cultural life.

Diplomats, Russian Ambassador to Nepal Andrew F. Trofinov, Entrepreneurs and high profile personalities were presented in the programme.   More >>

A literary programme to commemorate the 180th birth anniversary of Leo Tolstoy

11 September 2008,Click to enlarge A literary programme was organized at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel to commemorate the 180th birth anniversary of world famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy on 11th September 2008. The programme was jointly organized by the Kathmandu University, LMC (Literature in Mass Communication), Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Janmat Sahitya Batika.

Addressing the programme, Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr. Vladimir V. Novikov explain that the nature and beauty of Dhulikhel resembles with the the birth palce of Tolstoy Yasanaya-Polyana where the Russian literature boon throughout the world.

Elaborating the contribution of Tolstoy, he said Lenin has quoted that the late Tolstoy is not only the souvenir of Russia literature but also the souvenir of the world. Registrar Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Dr Bhadra Man TuladClick to enlargehar said that the Tolstoy novel 'War and Peace' and 'Anna-kareniae is highly appreciated through out the world. He informed that during the writing of novel "WAR and PEACE" he corrected hundred times to gave it final shape.

Critic and Littérateurs Khagendra Sangraula responding the works and life of Leo Tolstoy entitled him with the name of Shakespeare. He said the works of Tolstoy is blended with mediation and philosophy enabling the reader to be more realistic and authentic.

The programme was followed by the screening of movie based on the biography of late Tolstoy. More >>

RCSC screened the documentary movie “Operation: Clear Field: Genocide of Ossetians”

16 SClick to enlargeeptember 2008, To provide the real and vivid pictures of loss and causality of people in South Ossetia by Georgian troops, Russian Centre of Science and Culture screened the documentary movie named “Operation: Clear Field: Genocide of Ossetians” on September 16. The documentary was based on the compiled news and documentary covered by the reporters of Russian T.V channel NTV.

The documentary exhibits the heartrending picture of conflict and the barbarity of Georgian troops. The documentary provides the cruel act of Georgian soldier and their inhumane behavior to the people of South Ossetia.

The documentary speaks the irreparable pain and agony of the wounded people and their anger- to the Georgian troops.

Giving the brief information about the documentary, Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr. Vladimir V Novikov said the documentary movie is based on the true information about the Georgian aggressive to South Ossetia. The movie would help people to understand who is aggressive and who is offensive. He said the conflict can influence to the world politics in the days to come.

He said following the conflict new foreign policy has been introduced by the Russian government and added that Russia will always defend its territory, people and their interest.

He said the conflict can put pressure to the world politics and economic in the days to come.

RCSE Director distributed certificates to Russian language students

17 Click to enlargeSeptember 2008, Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr Vladimir V Novikov distributed the certificate to the students of Russian language who completed the Russian Language course at Russian Cultural Centre.

Those who completed the Russian language course are Pragya Raj Sapkota, Tshiring Sherpa, Shikchya Basnet, Suresh Bhandari, Subin Karma, Saurav Raj Kayastha, Shree Krishna Thapa, Umesh Subedi, Prachanda Man Pradhan, Mahesh Shakya, Chandra Thapa, Umesh Bhattari, Bigendra Maharjan, Prabin Shrestha, Aashis Poudyal, Deepak Khanal and Sushil Upreti.

Elaborating the importance of Russian language, lecturer of Russian language Professor Dr, Balram Aryal said during the time of the then Soviet Union Click to enlargeabout more than 1000 students used to enroll to study Russian language opting to study in Russia in scholarship. "But now the enrollment of students studying Russian language has been slightly increased with the growing economic development in Russia with an aim to seek employment in Russia. Besides, Russian language is must for the students who want to pursue their higher education in Russia and its other independent countries, he stated. World Peace Day Observed

22 September 2008, Russian Centre of Science and Culture and NationalClick to enlarge Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Association of Nepal jointly organized a talk programme on “Peace for the Progress and Prosperity for the Country and People” on the occasion of the World Peace Day.

The programme was chaired by the president of National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Association Dambar Bir Thapa, while the chief guest of the programme was Madhav Ghimire, Secretary at the Ministry for Peace and Reconstruction. The programme was started with the welcome speech of the Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Dr Vladimir V Novikov.

Addressing the welcome speech, Novikov said development is impossible without the existence of peace.

He furtheClick to enlarger said following the conflict in Georgia, Russia had changed its foreign policy giving more priority to international security, strengthening law and order and protecting human rights, adding that the Russia was always in favor of peace and the further conflict may arouse negative vibes among the international communities.

At the programme, people from various walks of life said that the nation should bring the culture of impunity to an end and establish a culture of accountability to ensure genuine peace in the country.

They also said that the sustainable peace was impossible without the guarantee of social and economic rights of the people.

Speaking at the programme secretary at the Ministry for Peace and Reconstruction Madhav Ghimire said Nepal had achieved significant achievement in peace building process after the decade-long conflict, adding the government was facing problem in maintaining sustainable peace in the country.

“We need to democratize peace process reaching to the grassroots level by providing equal access to equality and opportunity.” Ghimire said. More >>

Tourism Day Marked

Internet Day in Russia 2008 Marked

29 September 2008, Russian Centre of Science and Culture organized a talk programme to mark the Day of Internet in Russia.

Speaking at the programme, IT experts said Nepal is still behind 10 years in the developmClick to enlargeent of Information Technology (IT) as compared to neighboring countries like India and China.

They also opined that corruption, political instability, destruction of vital infrastructure during the insurgency, barrier of language, lack of cyber law and brain drain among youths were hinder the growth of IT in Nepal.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft Unlimited, Allen Tuladhar while inaugurating the official website of RCSC in Russian version provided brief information about http/msdnnepal.net. He said that site aimed to create awareness among the web developers and help in sharing ideas, experience and knowledge about IT.

He hoped that it would also help to utilize Microsoft products and technologies in the development projects.

Managing director of mucha.com Amrit Man Tuladhar shed light on the prospects of business in Nepal and presented some e-business sites of the country.

Programme officer of RCSC Arseny Starkov spoke about the history of internet use in Russia.

According to Starkov about 34 per cent Russian youths below 24 years use net, while 15 million people have access to it there. Launching official website of RCSC, he said the website was in different language such as Russian and English.

The website aims to disseminate information about the event and activities of Russian Culture to the people in Nepal and Russia. He further informed that RCSC is planning to launch its official website in Nepali language too.

Webmaster of RCSC, Sushil Upreti provided that information about the development of IT in Nepal and said that about 400,000 people in the country have access to net, and 2,000 cyber cafes are expected to be in operation throughout the country. A total of 35 IPs are working in Nepal and 1,700 website domains are being added to the net daily. More >>>
