The Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Kathmandu has been operating in Nepal since 1979. The chief goal of the big scope of activities undertaken by the Centre is aimed at promoting friendly relations and co-operation between Russia and Nepal through "people's diplomacy" particularly in the field of science, culture and education. Being the Russian state institution it is an integral part of the Russian cultural centres' network which comprises more than 50 countries of the world. Its work is coordinated by the Russian Centre of International Scientific and Cultural Co-operation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Kathmandu moved to a new building at Kamal Pokhari in 1993. It has gained popularity among the residents of Kathmandu Metropolitan City as well as of Kathmandu Valley as a bridge of friendship between the peoples of Russia and Nepal with two way traffic. The Russian Center of Science and Culture - an authoritative source of information and the reliable partner for Nepalese governmental bodies, NGOs and individuals who wish to establish contacts with Russian counterparts. It organizes seminars, talk programmes, master classes, paintings and photo exhibitions, film festivals and shows in regular intervals.
Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Kathmandu provides an opportunity for deserving Nepalese students to enroll in best Russian universities for bachelor, master's, PhD or Doctorate degree courses in international law, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacy, computer, civil or electrical engineering, etc. The center is administered by a joint Russian-Nepalese crew of professionals comprising linguists, teachers, librarians, musicians, painters, engineers, technicians and other staff.
Primary goals of the RCSC:
To help Nepalese public get acquainted with history and culture of the peoples of Russia, with internal and foreign policy of the Russian Government, with data on scientific, cultural and economic potentials of the Russian state;
To facilitate contacts and cooperation between creative, cultural and educational organizations, expansion of scientific, engineering and cultural ties between the Russian Federation and Nepal, popularization and learning of the Russian language and literature;
To promote development of partner relations between cities and regions of the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Nepal
To take part in implementation of international Programmes on co-operation in humanitarian, scientific and technical, cultural and information spheres.
