3rd Nov 2009, Celebration of 30th Anniversary of RCSC in Nepal
Russian Center of Science & Culture organized several programmes to mark the 30th anniversary of RCSC in Nepal.
Head of Department of the Secretariat of the head of Federal Agency  "Rossotrudnichestvo", Mr. S. A. Shapavalov participated the celebration programme.  During his stay in Nepal, he attended several meetings with the members of Association of Russian Compatriots in Nepal “Ivushka” and executive members of “Mitrakunj” and Nepal-Russia Friendship Association. He also took part in inauguration of art exhibition “Still and Movement” by Russian artists Garry Zooh, Ekaterina Ivanova and Elina Figurina. He also attended on the drama show based on Anton Chekhov’s “Swan Song”, performed by RCSC Theatre group “Shailli”.

Russian Center of Science & Culture Kathmandu organized an special celebration programme on the occasion of 30th anniversary of RCSC in Nepal on 3rd November. Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal was the Chief guest of the programme.  Other distinguished guests were His Excellency Ambassador of Russian Federation to Nepal, Andrey. L. Trofimov, Mr. S. A. Shapavalov and Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Prof. Madhav Prasad Sharma. Other invitees were the representatives from different partner NGOs, diplomatic missions, Nepalese society, Russian Compatriots and journalists.

During the programme, Mr. Shapavalov read out the greeting message from the Head of Federal Agency "Rossotrudnichestvo" Mr. F. M. Muhametshin to the participants of the solemn function on the occasion of 30 year of the Russian centre of science and culture in Kathmandu. In his message, he congratulated the staff members of RCSC Nepal and numerous friends in Nepal and representatives of public, political, social, cultural and youth organizations, graduates of the Russian and soviet higher educational establishments, Russian compatriots in Nepal on the occasion of this memorable date. He also wished the RCSC team for success of the Center’s activity for the benefit of further development of friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation between the peoples of Russia and Nepal.

Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal addressing the programme said that he is familiar with the history and activities of Russian Cultural Center Nepal. He also added that RCCS Nepal has become the most prominent foreign cultural organization in Nepal over the past 30 years.  He also said that the Nepalese people are very close to the culture and traditions of Russia from this center, which is very essential for strengthening the friendship and trust between the two countries. He also reminded that Russia has provided major role in the economic and educational development of Nepal. He called for further work to find ways of further development of Russia-Nepal relations.

Addressing the programme, other distinguished guests also congratulated RCSC and its staff members. During the programme, Dr. Vladimir Novikov Director of RCSC Kathmandu presented the commemorative certificates to the RCSC staff who have served at the center for more than 20 years.

RCSC Kathmandu received congratulations and greetings from many government, public and partner organizations of both countries including Russia-Nepal Friendship Association, Mitra Kunj, Nepal-Russia Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Russia-Nepal Cultural and Literary Associations, Association of Russian Compatriots “Ivushka”, Association of Nepalese Journalists and public. A number of higher education institutions also greeted RCSC Kathmandu to have these 30 successful years. After the official programme, RCSC organized a Nepalese and Russian concert and reception to mark this memorable day.

The function was covered by all TV channels and National daily newspapers.
To mark this anniversary, RCSC organized Inter-School chess competition and a photo exhibition on “Krasnoyarsk city in Kathmandu”.
