Russian Center of Science & Culture Kathmandu and Mitra Kunj jointly organized a Photo exhibition "Hydro Power development in Russia and Nepal " to mark the 100th Anniversary of the First Hydro Power (Pharping Power House) establishment and 45th Anniversary of Panauti Hydro Power Station at Russian Center of Science & Culture, Kamal Pokhari, Kathmandu on 25 May 2010. The Panauti Hydro Power Station was built by the Soviet Union on a grant basis as a token of friendship with Nepal.
The exhibition, prepared by Program Co-ordinator of RCSC Kathmandu and other staff members, presents numerous photographs of largest hydroelectric power stations in Russia and Nepal, as well as comprehensive information about the hydropower stations in both countries.
Stanislav Simakov, Director of RCSC Kathmandu welcomed the guests and talked about the energy sector in Russia and the possible prospects of cooperation between Russia and Nepal in this field. Chief Guest of the function, Honorable Minister of Energy Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the lamp. In his speech, Dr. Mahat welcomed the participation of Russia in the development of this sector in Nepal. He also addressed the Hydropower of Russia as an example for Nepal. The problem of electricity in the country has been remaining unresolved. The Government of Nepal is extremely concerned about this problem and has been discussing on various cooperation projects of Nepal with foreign countries.
The inauguration programme was attended by more than 100 people along with the representatives from Nepalese society, students of colleges and Universities in Nepal and journalists. The exhibition will continue till June 4. The function was covered in different national media.
