8th Sep 2009, International Literacy Day in Nepal
Russian Center of Science & Culture organized a talk programme on “Russia – the History, Culture & Language” to mark the International Literacy Day on 8th September 2009. The programme was attended by the students and teachers of several colleges of Kathmandu.
Program Coordinator of RCSC Nepal, A. Starkov told the participants about the Russian language, geography, history of Russia and traditions of Russian people. President of “Mitrakunj” Mr. Vishnu Bahadur Singh spoke about his studies in Russia, prospective of learning Russian language and studying in Russian Universities.
General Secretary of “Mitrakunj” Mr. N. Pradhan pointed out the similarities in the lexical roots of the Russian language and Sanskrit. He also called on Nepalese youth to study Russian languages and had promised to help in providing scholarship for deserving students.
There was also a certificate awarding ceremony for those students who had learnt the basic course of Russian Language from RCSC Kathmandu. Some of the RCSC graduates are planning to go to study in Russia and some have already decided to work in Russian tourism and business.
After the official part of the programme, a movie of film director N. Mikhalkov's "Among Strangers, a stranger among us" was screened.
