On the 7th of June, a literary evening was dedicated to a Great Russian poet, 'Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin' to celebrate his 211th birthday. With the participation of Nepal-Russia Literary Society (NRLO) in Kathmandu, the event was a successful one.
The programme was attended by Dr. Tejeshwor Babu Gonga - Chairman Nepal Russia Literary Association (NRLA) and the Director of the school "Jaycee High School" in Bhaktapur. He noted that his familiarity and interest in the Russian classical literature has a positive effect on the Nepalese students as well. He expressed his gratitude to the staff of the RCSC for organizing such literary programmes on a regular basis.
An expert translator of Russian literature and a professor at Kathmandu University, Dr. Jangab Chauhan, spoke about the life and work of the Great Russian poet of the XIX century. Distinguished guests and renowned Nepalese poets, writers and literary critics also participated in the event. Meanwhile, the participants recited extracts from poems and the works of Pushkin both in Russian and Nepali language. However, some Nepalese poets also recited self-composed poems in the end.
Observing a photo and a book exhibition devoted to Alexander Pushkin, Russian literature fans acknowledged the creative heritage and the significance of the Great Russian poet and his works, which is recognized and appreciated in Nepal as well.
Pushkin evening ended with a demonstration of the feature film "Ruslan and Ludmila."
